One Voice for the poor

The Commission on Social Services and Development held its fund-raising concert entitled “One Voice for the Poor II”, featuring the Excelsis Choir from Melbourne, Australia at the Manila Cathedral, Intramuros, Manila. The fund-raising activity aims to support the various ministries of our Commission in its service to the poor.

According to its website, “Excelsis is Melbourne’s most exciting and dynamic Catholic choir, singing for liturgical events and also giving regular concert performances. In recent years highlights for the choir have included performing on numerous occasions to sold-out audiences at St Patrick’s Cathedral and St Paul’s Cathedral in Melbourne and giving a concert tour of the Philippines in 2015.

The choir sings an extremely varied repertoire of sacred music from numerous Christian traditions, incorporating classical European works, hymnody, contemporary church music, traditional African pieces, spirituals and gospel songs. Excelsis takes its name from the Latin word, meaning ‘highest’. Through the music which it sings, the choir aims to achieve the highest musical standards, in order to give praise to the Highest.
