A drug suspect who was being served with a warrant of arrest was killed Friday morning after he refused to surrender peacefully and instead engaged the lawmen in a shootout in Toledo City, Cebu.
The fatality was identified as Remegio Atelio, 53, of Talisay City. Atelio was the subject of an arrest warrant for dealing illegal drugs.
Elements of the provincial intelligence branch and drug enforcement unit arrested the suspect’s alleged cohort, Teodolo Inseso, 36, during the same operation.
Prior to the shootout, the police went to their hideout in Barangay Campo 8, Toledo, about 5:30 a.m. to arrest Atelio who was facing charges for violating Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
But instead of yielding, the suspect opened fire, prompting the police to shoot back.
Recovered from the slain suspect were an M16 rifle with ammunition, two .45 caliber pistols, a KG9 submachine gun and sachets of suspected shabu.
