Two fire incidents were reported in Manila yesterday morning, with the first destroying seven houses on Yuseco Street and the second gutting 20 residences in Baseco Compound.

No one was reported injured in both fires whose causes were still being investigated at press time, according to Fire Senior Insp. Reden Alumno.

The Yuseco fire started at 7:45 a.m. and reached third alarm before being put out 70 minutes later. The Baseco fire which started at 11 a.m. happened in Barangay 649, Zone 68 in Tondo.

Investigators are looking into an exploding gas lantern as the possible cause of the Baseco fire, which quickly spread to houses made of light materials.

Responding firefighters and residents in the compound joined forces to put out the fire, which was declared out by 12 noon. At least 60 families were affected by the fire.
