A lawmaker yesterday urged the Department of Education (DepEd) on Thursday to also educate the parents and guardians on the newly-signed HIV-AIDS Policy Act to strengthen the awareness and treatment campaign.
Kabayan Partylist Rep. Ron Salo said the Parents and Teachers Association and DepEd should join hands in sharing information to parents and guardians who should also be made aware of the danger HIV-AIDS dangers to their children and wards.
“Including the parents and guardians among those primarily responsible over the health and wellness of their children fills in one of the major gaps in the HIV-AIDS awareness and treatment campaigns,” Salo said.
He noted that education for parents and guardians was included in the new HIV-AIDS Policy Act because some of them have failed in their basic responsibility for their children’s health and wellness.
