Despite various issues hounding him, Adrien Broner remains fit and deadly to destroy eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao in their World Boxing Association welterweight title fight on 20 January at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe said Broner will shock the world when he steps on the ring against Pacquiao, who is looking for a massive win before facing Mayweather later this year.

Ellerbe, who promotes the 29-year-old fighter, fielded questions from journalists during a well-attended media day at Wildcard Gym in Hollywood while Broner held a separate session at the 10 Goose Boxing Gym in Van Nuys.

“I think the fans are going to be surprised at how incredibly in shape Broner is,” said Ellerbe, who brushed off controversies that surround his wards, including allegations of sexual misconduct.

“There’s danger for Manny, what Broner brings to the table. He brings youth, power and tremendous skill set. It’s nothing Manny had seen before.”

But the 40-year-old Pacquiao refused to buy into the hype, saying that he still packs a punch and could clobber Broner to submission.

In fact, he proved his doubters wrong when he knocked out Lucas Matthysse of Argentina in the seventh round of their title fight last year in Kuala Lumpur.

“I still have it. God is good,” said Pacquiao, who fashions a record 60 wins, seven losses and two draws with 39 knockouts, during his media availability session.

“At age 40, it’s hard to think about future fights. But I think I can still manage. Just one at a time.”
