Even Americans can’t help but be smitten by Miss Universe 2018’s charm and oozing confidence.
They turned a little subdued when she eloquently talked about Young Focus Philippines and her passion for providing quality education in impoverished areas
Catriona Gray breezed through two live interviews on Monday morning (New York time) as she sat down with Good Morning America’s Ginger Zee and Live With Kelly and Ryan’s Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest.
Radiant in a long-sleeved yellow dress and sporting a sleek ponytail with bouncy waves, Catriona managed to squeeze in her advocacy and love for music in the over-a-minute interview with Zee.
“In the Philippines, I work with an organization called Young Focus and what they do is they give access to quality education which, without NGO like it, those kids might never realize the dream of having an education and developing a love for learning,” she said.
Zee was heard complimenting Gray as “gorgeous inside and out.” She then asked if fans will see the new Miss Universe perform on stage.
“I hope so! Even as a Miss Universe I would love to participate in a benefit concert or something like that to really merge my love for music and in giving back. I think that would be amazing,” Catriona said.
“Well, obviously you’re perfect and that’s why you won Miss Universe!” Zee exclaimed, to Catriona’s delight.
Gray then headed to the studio of Live with Kelly and Ryan.
She was as charming and as at ease with the seasoned hosts, even eliciting hearty laughs and banter with her gift of the gab.
She again talked about her advocacy, her joining the Little Miss Philippines pageant, as well as her mother’s premonition that she would win the crown wearing a red dress.
During the almost five-minute interview, she traded jokes with Seacrest when she talked about being sporty when she was younger, but when she reached the age of 12, she suddenly found herself uncoordinated. At that age, she stood at five feet and eight inches.
Seacrest caught on fast and quipped in a deadpan manner, “I’m 44 and 5’8.” Ripa retorted that he was exaggerating, then all three, as well as the audience, broke into laughter.
Gray again proudly mentioned her Filipino roots by answering that she looked like siopao in three layers of clothing while enjoying New York’s winter season and also talked about her famous Mayon gown. She also smoothly segued that her mom is Filipino and her dad is a Scottish immigrant who moved to Australia. And she definitely acknowledged her kababayans, many of whom packed the studio, and called them the “best fans” in the world.
They turned a little subdued when she eloquently talked about Young Focus Philippines and her passion for providing quality education in impoverished areas.
This prompted Seacrest to say, “That’s good parenting in there,” to which Ripa agreed.
As of this writing, the first two interviews can already be seen online.
Catriona posted on her Instagram, which recently reached another milestone by reaching four million followers on Tuesday (Philippine time), that she had four interviews that day. She is set to appear on Inside Edition as well as Celebrity Page.
Teasers of the latter reveal Catriona teaching host Stephen Walker her famous slow-mo twirl.
