Police authorities have launched a manhunt against two motorcycle-riding gunmen who shot and killed a retired police officer while officiating a basketball game in Barangay Industrial Valley Complex, Marikina City Saturday evening.
Eastern Police District director Chief Supt. Bernabe Balba identified the victim as retired Chief Insp. Elmer Corbe, a resident of Cadena de Amor corner Olandes Street in Barangay Industrial Valley Complex.
Corbe was formerly assigned at Quezon City Police District and was reassigned at Marikina City Police Station until his retirement.
Senior Supt. Roger Quesada, Marikina police chief, said they incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday while the victim was officiating a basketball game.
The motorcycle assailants suddenly appeared in the said area and without any word shot the victim and then immediately fled toward unknown direction.
Quesada said they are yet to determine the motive behind the killing of Corbe and the identities of the suspects.
