Foreigners already working or wanting to work in Boracay are now free to do so, after Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III on midweek ordered the lifting of the temporary suspension on the issuance of alien employment permits (AEP) to expatriates on the island.
AEP is a document issued by the labor department which authorizes a foreign national to work in the Philippines
In Labor Advisory 01, series of 2019, Bello ordered the lifting of the temporary suspension after the lapse of the closure period under Proclamation 475 issued by President Duterte last year.
The world-famous island was temporarily closed from 26 April to 25 October last year to pave the way for its rehabilitation program.
To complement the government’s efforts, Bello on 26 June 2018, issued Labor Advisory 11 ordering the temporary suspension on the issuance of AEP to foreign nationals.
The order covered foreigners who intend to engage in gainful employment in the island and those with valid AEP who want to renew their employment permits.
AEP is a document issued by the labor department which authorizes a foreign national to work in the Philippines.
