DU30 names new envoys

Malacanang on Friday released the appointment papers of new ambassadors to European and African countries.

Signed on 19 December and released to the media yesterday, the documents showed President Rodrigo Duterte has designated Edward Fereira as the new special envoy to Kazakhstan for a period of six months.

Raul Mendoza, the longtime former spokesman in the Department of Foreign Affairs and envoy to South Korea, meanwhile, will serve in his new post as Ambassador to Turkey. He will also have a concurrent role as envoy to Georgiz and Azerbaijan.

Former Ambassador to Lebanon Leah Ruiz has been appointed to her new post in Poland and will have a concurrent jurisdiction over Ukraine, Latvia and Lithuania.

On the other hand, Alex Chua was designated as new Ambassador of the country to Kenya as well as to Burundi, Comoros, Congo, Malawi, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda and South Sudan.

Chua was also named as permanent Philippine representative to the United Nations Environmental Programme and UN Human Settlements Programme.
