Magnolia blasts Alaska, 77-71


Magnolia overran Alaska, 77-71, in Game 2 of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup best-of-seven finals series to gain a 2-0 lead Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Down by four, 61-65, entering the fourth period, the Hotshots made a tough defensive stance that limited the Aces to just six points the rest of the way en route to their win.

Import Romeo Travis led the way with 24 points, nine rebounds and four steals for the Hotshots, who are eyeing their first championship since 2014.

Ian Sangalang added 11 points while Jio Jalalon racked up four straight points in the last three minutes, including the game-sealing free throws in the last 15 seconds, to finish with seven points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Mike Harris fired 20 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and made three steals for Alaska, which lost to Magnolia, 84-100, in Game 1.

Game 3 of the series is on Sunday at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City.
