Members of Philippine Army’s 503rd Infantry Brigade on Tuesday arrested an 18-year-old member of the New People’s Army (NPA) shortly after an encounter in Ifugao.
Authorities said suspect “Ka Cindy” was left behind by her comrades during a hot pursuit operation conducted by the military against the rebels and other terrorists.
Being a minor, the soldiers coordinated with provincial social welfare and development office in Ifugao who later helped her to be reunited with her family.
Ka Cindy subsequently encouraged her former comrades who are still on the mountains to lay down their arms and surrender.
“I am calling on the remaining members of NPA to go down and surrender now. The government is ready to help us through Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program,” she said.
Ka Cindy will be enrolled in the program and is expected to receive assistance from the government that would help her return to normal civilian life.
