Jardeleza remains richest SC justice


Associate Justice Francis Jardeleza remains the wealthiest magistrate, as the Supreme Court (SC), on Tuesday, disclosed the summary of the 2017 Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Networth (SALN) of the 15-member court.

Jardeleza’s P267 million networth is P9 million higher than his declared P252.16 million in 2016.

After Jardeleza, the next richest magistrate is Justice Mariano del Castillo who reported P144.5 million, while coming in third is Justice Benjamin Caguioa with P123.8 million.

Although Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio came in fourth with P105.87 million, the amount represented an increase of over P23.2 million from his 2016 networth of P82.6 million.

Prior to his appointment as associate justice of SC, Jardeleza had an extensive law practice in the 1980s and in 1996 he became senior vice president and counsel of San Miguel Corp., a blue-chip food conglomerate.

On the other hand, Associate Justice Marvic Leonen remained the poorest with P2,964,314.57.
