A mother’s queso de bola

Nanay Luisa Queso de Bola Spread is available in four sizes.

Think comfort food and you are infused with a feeling of well-being, associated with childhood memories of home cooking. Cheese, especially queso de bola, awakens memories of Christmas season for many Filipinos.

Even though the modern Filipino taste expanded and Filipinos have access to cheese of all types and from different parts of the world, queso de bola is expected during Christmas. One of the best is Nanay Luisa’s Queso de Bola Spread.

The cheese is prepared following consistent quality standards and sealed with happy memories as it comes from a much-loved recipe of a grandmother. Loaded with pure Edam cheese and seasoned with a balanced mix of pickle relish, pimiento and mayo, the texture is creamy and tastes sweet and savory. It is the recipe of the late Nanay Luisa, who in her senior years dedicated her life caring for her family, especially her grandchildren, always ensuring that everyone has good food to eat.

THIS holiday season, Nanay Luisa’s Queso de Bola Spread makes a perfect food gift.

Back in those days, queso de bola was a typical gift the family received from friends and family members during the holiday season. Nanay Luisa, who had always been conscientious about food wastage, thought of creative ways of transforming the leftover queso de bola.
She prepared it as a cheese-pimiento spread. From family to friends and friends of friends, the spread has been a favorite staple in many Christmas gatherings, spreading the cheese on bread, toasts and crackers.

When her family began giving the spread as a holiday gift, the response was positive and an ever-increasing number of friends clamor for jars of the spread. In 2017, one of Nanay Luisa’s grandchildren, Julian, and his girlfriend Angel, began selling the spread, believing that “what their family enjoys must be something that other families should also enjoy.” Now being sold at weekend pop-up bazaars such as those in Shangri-La Food Forum, Central Square BGC, and SM Aura, it is also a mainstay at a market at the second level of Trinoma mall on weekends.
