The Philippine Rubber Farmers’ Association (PRFA), in partnership with the Department of Agriculture (DA) and other stakeholders, will soon produce motorcycle and small tractor tires.
The group is looking at February next year to launch their products which will be branded as Pilipinas Agila Tires, according to Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol.
Piñol said the rubber farmers will market their products to motorcycle shops and owners and to hand-held farm tractors manufacturers and farmer-owners.
“This will virtually free the rubber farmers from the control of traders who base their buying prices for raw rubber called cuplumps on world market prices which are low now,” Piñol said.
The development came after Leo Tire Manufacturing proposed to PRFA to buy raw rubber produce from its members and process them to SPR 20. Leo Tire will then purchase the product to make two fast-moving tires – the 3.00 x 17 for motorcycle and those for hand-held tractors.
