Alysa Aaron Mandahuyan Esponilla, a 16-year-old student from the province of Antique, was crowned second runner-up at the Miss Teen International pageant held last 26 July in Bangkok, Thailand.
The fourth-year high school student of the Regional Pilot School for the Arts in Angono Rizal, said she is delighted that she was able to bring honor to her home province.
“I am a proud Antiqueña having spent half of my life in Sibalom,” she said.
Alysa’s father who hails from the barangay of Bari in Sibalom, is the son of Florentino Esponilla, known to have popularized gemstones or semi-precious stones picked from the Sibalom River, which he turns into jewelry. The young beauty queen, who acquired her early education at a private school in Sibalom, further said that as a visual artist, she wants to advocate “arts for awareness” among teenagers. She also wants to pursue further studies in Fine Arts.
“I want the youth to love art,” she added.
Esponilla, who competed against 40 teenagers at the pageant, visited the Antique capitol last Monday to express her gratitude to the provincial government for their support.
