A stay-out houseboy repaid the kindness of his long-time employer, a certified public accountant (CPA), by bludgeoning her to death with a dumbbell over the weekend in Barangay Pasong Tamo in Quezon City.

The suspect, Donny Dollente, was presented yesterday to members of the media by Quezon City Police District (QCPD) head Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel Jr. after his arrest.

Dollente admitted to the police that he killed CPA Maria Joy Rima Maskariño, who had employed him for over 10 years, so he can rob her of her belongings.

The victim was found dead by her brother who went to her apartment after his phone calls to her went unanswered. The brother reported the crime to the Talipapa police station.

“The suspect claimed he was under the influence of illegal drugs when he committed the crime,” Esquivel said.

The QCPD chief added a person in his right mind, especially one who had been working for the victim for a long time, would have found it hard to commit the ghastly crime.

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit cracked the case when they determined that the victim was last seen with the suspect noontime of Friday at a grocery store.

Invited for questioning by the police at Camp Karingal, Dollente broke down and admitted committing the crime.

Retrieved from the suspect’s house were the victim’s laptop, tablet, mobile phone, watch, passport, identification cards, automated teller machine cards, bankbooks and P7,000 in cash.

Dollente said he tried to mislead policemen by breaking the glass window to make it appear a burglar forcibly entered the victim’s house. He added he cleaned up the crime scene of anything that would connect him to what happened.

The suspect showed the police where he hid the dumbbell — under a kitchen cabinet of the apartment.

Dollente will be charged with robbery and homicide before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
