With the penchant of Filipinos for singing, the new promotional gimmick of a public utility bus (PUB) in Cebu is not surprising: it is offering free fare for any passenger who’ll get a score of 100 in the karaoke on board the vehicle.
The driver said they thought of the gimmick to ease the stress of their passengers while they traverse the 45-kilometers-long Cebu City-Sibonga route with an estimated travel time of around an hour and a half.
Under the promo mechanics, a passenger can pick any song from the tunes available in the songbook and belt out to his heart’s delight. If he gets a score of 100, his bus fare is free.
Eduardo Montealto, regional director of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Central Visayas said karaoke in PUB and the promotional singing gimmick are not prohibited.
Of course, Montealto said the driver should not be taking part in such singing activity which is allowed as long as the passengers would not complain about it.
Bus driver Agrifino Sentillas said they are willing to shut down the karaoke machine should there be any complain from a passenger.
It is not clear, however, if the bus would charge double the regular fare any passenger who would dare participate in the promo but who could not carry a tune.
