CEBU CITY — Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar has pledged P500 million for the creation of the Visayas Media Hub in Cebu next year to house various government information agencies, like the People’s Television 4, Radio Television Malacanang, Philippine News Agency and the Philippine Information Agency.
I believe in the vibrancy of our democracy that allows people to express their thoughts and their feelings.
Andanar made the announcement during his visit to the province as he said Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno had already committed to allocate the budget for lot acquisition, construction of the building and installation of equipment.
“I believe in the vibrancy of our democracy that allows people to express their thoughts and their feelings,” he told members of the media. According to Andanar, the Mindanao Media Hub in Davao City will be completed before the end of the year.
The media hubs are also aimed at establishing a stronger relationship between the PCOO and the media as he dismissed speculations the Duterte administration is biased against the mainstream media.
He described “all these noises” as “just politics.”
During the meeting with the local press, Andanar, who is also being eyed to head the soon to be revived Office of the Press Secretary in lieu of the PCOO, said the discipline, trainings and accountability of mainstream media in disseminating information should be fostered and respected.
“In fact, the media is the only profession enshrined in the Constitution to protect press freedom,” he said.
