A Dutch national was arrested early dawn Friday after four minor girls alleged he solicited sexual favors from them in exchange for a latest smart phone worth P50,000.
Stephen de Groot, 52 and from The Netherlands, was collared by police outside his home in Santa Monica Estate in Barangay Mohon in Talisay City, Cebu.
He was with the four girls between 13 to 16 years old.
His arrest was ordered after a parent of one of the four girls sought police assistance. The parent claimed to have learned about the Dutch’s offer to her daughter after she discovered her lying about visiting her sister.
She said a call to her older daughter verified her suspicion about her younger daughter not making the trip to nearby Pardo town.
Alarmed, the parent started looking for her daughter until she learned about her staying in De Groot’s house.
Chief Inspector Ardiolito Cabagnot, deputy chief of the Talisay City Police Office organized a team of policemen along with the International Justice Mission and the Provincial Women’s Commission to corner De Groot.
Cabagnot said De Groot and the four girls were about to leave when the girls were rescued.
“We interviewed the four girls. One confessed that they were promised P500 in exchange for sexual acts with the suspect. One of them was promised the latest iPhone model worth about P50,000,” Cabagnot disclosed.
Cebu Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale told reporters that two of the girls are now in the custody of social workers at a center owned by the provincial government.
