A police officer was killed while another was injured in an ambush staged by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Aurora province Tuesday, according to a report from the Central Luzon police in Camp Olivas in Aurora.
The policemen were on their way to respond to an arson incident when they were fired upon by suspected NPA rebels.
Chief Supt. Amador Corpus, regional police director, on Wednesday condemned the attack as an “act of terrorism” and pointed out that rebels attacked policemen from Maria Aurora town and the First Provincial Mobile Force Company who were only responding to a call of duty.
PO2 Marcial Ronald Buendicho Ruidera, whom Corpus describes as a “dedicated police officer, a great person and father,” was killed in the ambush that also wounded SPO2 Angelo Nobleza Gawat, chief investigator of the Maria Aurora police.
