7 p.m. — San Miguel vs Phoenix
Phoenix seeks to formalize its playoffs entry when it goes up against skidding San Miguel Beer in a crucial Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup battle today at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Sporting a 6-2 record, the third-running Fuel Masters are also out to boost their chances for a twice-to-beat incentive in the main game at 7 p.m.
Prior to that, cellar-dwellers Northport and Meralco clash in the first game at 4:30 p.m. to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
Currently tied at third place with Blackwater, Phoenix is in good position to accomplish its twice-to-beat goal, especially coming off an impressive 123-97 trouncing of NLEX this Wednesday.
“It’s hard to predict. But I like our chance especially after having the luxury of resting my main core last outing,” said Alas who turned 55 years old in Phoenix’s big 26-point win two days ago.
“Come Friday against San Miguel, my wards will have no fatigue reason. We’ll see. Our motivation is our dream of staying in the upper bracket.”
But Alas is worried against the Beermen, who are tipped to come out swinging in a bid to snap their three-game slump.
Expected to lead the charge for the Fuel Masters is monster import Eugene Phelps, who buried the Road Warriors with 51 points, 20 rebounds, two assists and three blocks.
That was his fourth 50-point game in his two-year PBA career and is eager to continue his outburst in a bid to come up with a fighting chance for the Best Import award.
