Agriculture Secretary Manny Pinol on Wednesday reiterated that he will not run for a government post in next year’s mid-term elections.
Pinol said on radio that unlike some Cabinet members, he would not throw his hat in the 2019 mid-term elections.
“I am happy with my post and that I can help farmers. At the same time, it has been my dream to reform our agriculture sector,” said Pinol.
Cabinet members who are reportedly running in next year’s polls are Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, Agrarian Reform Secretary John Castriciones and Guiling Mamondiong, director general of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
This was disclosed by President Rodrigo Duterte in his interview with the Malacanang Press Corps.
The President also earlier announced former Customs chief and now Office of Civil Defense Deputy Administrator Nicanor Faeldon was also planning to run for governor in Mindoro.
Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr., meanwhile, is reported to be eyeing the gubernatorial post in Bohol. He is a former mayor of the town of Maribojoc in the said province.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque and Special Assistant to the President Bong Go and Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs Francis Tolentino are also among those supposedly eyeing Senate seats or local posts in the 2019 polls.
