Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito yesterday formally took his oath as a member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) – officially cutting his ties with the Partido ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) founded by his father, former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada.
Ejercito, who took his oath before Senate President Vicente Sotto III, lamented leaving PMP but stressed that his respect and love for his father remain.
“It was a difficult decision. It’s really difficult leaving the party of my father,” said the senator, who will be seeking reelection in next year’s mid-term elections.
“I just want to clarify that while we have disagreements sometimes, we differ in opinions, I am not cutting my relations to my father –my respect and love remain,” he added.
Ejercito stressed that his primary reason in leaving PMP was his principle not to run under one party with his half-brother former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada.
