The shipping firm Chelsea Logistics Corp. has invested $50 million to acquire new vessels and expand its fleet of transport assets.
The acquisitions pertained to the roll-on, roll-off vessel M/V Salve Regina which can carry 500 passengers and 41 vehicles and the 183.3-meter M/T Chelsea Providence which is a medium range oil tanker able to ship 54 million liters of petroleum with ease.
The passenger vessel has been deployed to service the lucrative Batangas-Caticlan route and cater to throngs of visitors enjoying the beaches of Boracay and nearby recreational and vacation places.
According to their owners, the acquisitions add to their fleet of 83 vessels that include 16 ttankers, 9 cargo vessels and 14 tugboats.
Chelsea Logistics also owns more than half of the transport firm 2GO Group Inc. which likewise operates eight RoRo passenger vessels, five cargo ships and 11 fastcraft that services various passenger-rich points across the country.
“Today, we are grateful to welcome our biggest as well as the Philippines’ biggest registered vessel, the M/T Chelsea Providence,” said Chelsea Logistics founder and chairman Dennis Uy.
