BoC confiscates smuggled sugar

By Raymart T. Lolo

The Bureau of Customs (BoC) office at the Port of Manila (PoM) issued yesterday a Decree of Abandonment against 45 20-foot containers of sugar erroneously declared as kitchen utensils.

The sugar worth P39.37 million arrived at the port in batches in June and July. The consignment was forfeited in favor of the government after its importer failed to file the necessary papers within the prescribed period.

Red Star Rising Corporation, owned by a certain Dante Lunar with address at Unit A, GF Binondo Warehouse Depot 3,99 Barraca Corner Muelle de Binondo, Manila was the consignee.

The importer violated Section 117 (Regulated Importation and Exportation), Section 1400 (Misdeclaration, Misclassification, Undervaluation in Goods Declaration) of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
