It’s not by coincidence that 369 lactating mothers happened to be at the Festive Walk Mall in Mandurriao, Iloilo City on Saturday, all at the same time. It was an annual gathering dubbed Hakab Na! (Latch On) to promote breastfeeding across the country.
In fact, the Hakab Na! 2018 versions were held simultaneously in the country in Mandaluyong, Alabang, Aklan, Bacolod, Benguet, Bulacan, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Dumaguete, Isabela, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Zambales and by Filipino women in Singapore.
The mothers breast-fed their babies for one full minute as part of The Big Latch On, an international activity where mothers breast-fed from different locations around the world to create a world record for the most number of moms breast-feeding simultaneously.
Hakab Na! 2018 is also in line with Executive Order 51 or the Milk Code which promotes breastfeeding for the health of babies.
If only those infants can already talk, they would be all praises for getting the most nutritious milk available and say: Let’s drink to that.
