PHILIPPINE National Police Chief Oscar Albayalde is supervising the investigation of the killing of Father Richmond Nilo to help quickly solve the Nueva Ecija priest’s murder on Sunday, Malacanang said on Wednesday.
“Ang pinaka-latest na balita nga pala dito sa pinatay na pangatlong pari, eh si PNP Chief Albayalde na po ang nagsu-supervise sa imbestigasyon. Ito po’y in-assure sa akin kahapon lamang ni Gen. Albayalde (The latest news on the slain priest is that PNP Chief Albayalde himself is supervising the investigation. Gen. Albayalde assured this to me yesterday),” said Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque in an interview.
Roque said Albayalde gave a status briefing on their investigation, including the possible motive for the killing of Nilo.
However, the presidential spokesman said he cannot divulge the details while the investigation is ongoing.
Albayalde went to the Zaragosa Police Station in Nueva Ecija Wednesday noon and Police Regional Office 3 Director Chief Supt. Amador Corpuz gave him the CCTV footage showing two gunmen aboard a motorcycle going to and from the chapel where Nilo was gunned down while holding Mass.
The CCTV camera is from the baranggay hall near the chapel.
A manhunt for the two persons of interest was launched by the PNP.
Albayalde also gave a status briefing to Nueva Ecija Bishop Sofronio Bancud and assured the latter that the arrest of perpetrators and solution of the case is of utmost priority for the PNP.
Albayalde had ordered Corpuz to solve ASAP Nilo’s case and that of Father Tito Paez last December 2017.
“There should be no rest and no holiday ever, until we put these mindless criminals behind bars,” said Albayalde.
Malacañang has joined the Catholic bishops and the faithful in condemning the murder of Nilo, Paez and Cagayan province priest Fr. Mark Ventura, who was also gunned down by a riding-in-tandem.
