The city government of Marikina will construct a five-story police headquarters using P130 million in sourced funds in Barangay Fortune.
In an interview over the weekend, Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro revealed the multi-story building with a floor space of 3,752 square meters or 536 square meters per floor will be home to hundreds of police operatives of the city.
“It’s a five-story building, with firing range, and it is modern compared to other police headquarters,” Teodoro said.
He also revealed he consulted with the Philippine National Police higher-ups, particularly the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), which is currently led by Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, for the design of the building so it would be in consonance with the current architectural preference of the national police.
“We coordinated with them lalo na ang architectural ng PNP so ang design ayos sa kanila para kung me nagrereklamo tama ang design, merong basic equipment,” Tedoro said.
The money will not come from the general fund of the city but it was sourced out by Teodoro so as not to deplete the city coffers.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the multimillion-peso police headquarters will be held this June, according to the mayor.
The mayor said for 400-year history of Marikina City it is the biggest expenditure but it will not come from the city coffers.
“In the last 400-year history of Marikina this is the biggest budget, and we are using the money judiciously and I want this to be my legacy,” Teodoro said.
Teodoro added he’s planning to build a police detachment office near the city hall.
“This is the first time the city government has provided the largest resources to our policemen in the city,” the mayor added.
Early last year, the city government also donated seven brand- new police patrol cars to the City Police Station.
Teodoro said the city government will also buy long firearms and high-powered guns for the city’s police personnel for more dangerous operations.
