Meralco Sibol School brings hope to Camp David GK Village

06/08/2008

Camp David is popularly known as a mountain retreat for US presidents where they meet their advisers and visiting world leaders. Here in our country, Camp David GK Village is a humble community in Pabuhay Site, Sta. Rosa I, Noveleta, Cavite of 189 families. Though worlds apart, both are refuge to people who want to seek peace and desire a bright future for the coming generations.

Though Camp David in the US is replete with amenities, the Camp David GK Village here recently “grew” when it inaugurated a Meralco Sibol School which will benefit the pre-school kids in the community.

“We have seen how our involvement through a Sibol School empowers a community. We believe that education – being one of the core thrust of Meralco’s corporate social responsibility – has the power to change lives and bring hope to communities,” Meralco Chairman and CEO Manuel Lopez said.

“Though there are challenges along the way, we at Meralco are focused in putting CSR into action. We want to leave a legacy to the future not only by serving the public efficiently but by ensuring that the young ones will benefit from proper education.”

Cavite Gov. Ayong Maliksi was honored that Meralco has chosen the site for its Sibol School, stressing the school “empowers communities since education is one of the pillars of a vibrant nation.”

He also reiterated his support to Meralco’s advocacy especially in the field of social responsibility.

Aside from the formal inauguration, ribbon-cutting and blessing, Lopez also turned over the key to Viola de Guzman, Kapitbahayan president, to signify the transfer of the responsibility to maintain the school in order.

The Sibol School is Meralco’s way of nurturing the dreams of children and families and building community through education. It was launched as a response to the need of bringing community-based pre-school education at the heart of GK communities.
